Strand is all about its beach, its promenade, and its relaxed family-friendly vibe. The warm False Bay waters (up to 22°C in summer) make it one of the best swimming beaches near Cape Town. Beyond the sand, there is a scenic walking route, a tidal pool, and easy day-trip access to wine farms and mountain trails.
Strand Beach
Beach Rd, Strand
A wide, 5 km golden-sand beach stretching from the Lourens River mouth towards Gordon's Bay. The water is warm by Cape standards, lifeguards patrol in season, and the gently shelving sand makes it safe for kids. Sunrise walks here are spectacular, with views across False Bay to the Hottentots Holland mountains.
Strand Promenade & Tidal Pool
Beach Rd Promenade, Strand
The paved beachfront promenade runs the length of Strand beach and is perfect for walking, jogging, or cycling. At the southern end near Harmony Park, a sheltered tidal pool offers safe swimming for children and those who prefer calmer water. Benches and green lawns line the route.
Harmony Park & Miniature Railway
Beach Rd (south end), Strand
A family favourite at the southern end of Strand beach. The park has shaded picnic areas, a playground, and a miniature train that runs on weekends and school holidays. There is a small waterpark for young children in summer and a putt-putt course. Affordable and fun for a half-day outing.
