About the West Coast

The West Coast stretches north from Cape Town along the Atlantic seaboard, offering a completely different experience from the lush Garden Route. This is a land of wide-open skies, turquoise lagoons, whitewashed fishing villages, and some of the most spectacular wildflower displays on Earth (August–September).

The region is famous for open-air seafood — particularly crayfish in Paternoster and mussels in Saldanha. Kitesurfing and sailing thrive on the Langebaan Lagoon, while the West Coast National Park protects pristine fynbos and wetlands. Darling, closest to Cape Town, is known for its satirical cabaret scene and wine estates.
