River rafting depends on water levels. The Breede is best after winter rains (Oct-Dec). By March, water levels drop and some rapids flatten out. Check with operators before booking late-season trips.

Vrolijkheid is empty on weekdays. Weekend visitors come from Cape Town, but Tuesday to Thursday the reserve is virtually deserted. The best birding is at dawn on a quiet weekday morning.
